Privacy & save ownership
Your world stays with you.
No account. No cloud save. Blankvale seals your world in this browser and gives you an encrypted way to carry it elsewhere.
Local-firstYour save is not a service we can lock you out of.
The short version
The game downloads. Your world does not upload.
Play without an identity
Blankvale does not require an account, email address, social login, or player profile. The game knows the fictional world you create, not who you are.
Keep two sealed generations
The browser stores a current and previous world. Both are authenticated and encrypted before they enter IndexedDB, so routine browser inspection does not reveal plaintext state.
Choose when it becomes portable
Export creates a passphrase-protected .bvs file. Blankvale does not know or recover that passphrase. You decide where the archive goes.
A plain-language data map
What is stored, where, and why
Blankvale separates delivered site files from your private game world. The server sends the application. The browser owns the save.

Public game files
HTML, JavaScript, fonts, scene art, icons, the service worker, and public policy files are delivered like any other website.

Sealed world & settings
Current and previous encrypted save envelopes plus the non-exportable device keys required to open them.
Stays local
A file you create
Portable archive
A passphrase-derived, encrypted .bvs archive used for backup or transfer. It exists only when you export it.
Your choice
Recovery has honest limits
Export before you clear.
Clearing this site’s browser storage removes both local save generations and the device keys that open them. Browser private modes and automatic storage cleanup can also be temporary.
Blankvale cannot restore a deleted local world from a server because it never had a copy. If the world matters to you, export an encrypted archive and keep its passphrase somewhere separate.
- Open the archive toolsChoose Export Archive from the game toolbar.
- Use a passphrase you can recoverIt protects the archive and is required for every import.
- Keep the file outside browser storageStore the
.bvsfile wherever you keep important personal backups.
Network boundaries
The town state is not analytics payload.
Game saves, passphrases, exported archives, inventory, relationships, and Chronicle history are not sent as telemetry. Production logging is limited to operational failures and does not include plaintext world state.
Blankvale may request public application files from its own origin. If optional sponsor art is configured in the future, it can load only from approved HTTPS origins after validation; save data is not included in those requests.
Save & privacy questions
Know before you clear the fog
Where is my Blankvale world saved?
Your current and previous save generations are sealed and stored in this site’s IndexedDB storage in your browser. The cryptographic device keys are also kept as non-exportable browser CryptoKeys.
Does Blankvale have cloud saves or player accounts?
No. Blankvale does not require a player account and does not provide a cloud-save service. Your gameplay world is not uploaded to the Blankvale server.
How do I move a save to another browser or device?
Use Export Archive in the game and choose a passphrase. Blankvale creates an encrypted .bvs archive. Import that file in another Blankvale browser session and enter the same passphrase.
What happens if I clear site data?
Clearing browser data for this site removes its local saves and device keys. That cannot be undone. Export a passphrase-protected archive first if you want a recoverable backup.
Can I play Blankvale offline?
Yes, after the progressive web app has installed its local shell and assets. Offline play continues to use the sealed save in that browser. The game settles at most 48 hours of elapsed world time when you return.
